This applies to students in Cuba because over 70% of Cuban population was born with Fidel Castro as leader and it is the first chance for any major reforms to the country of their life time. This video also shows Hugo Chavez underlining the importance of Cuba's situation for students all over the world.

The Spanish American War
Black Soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments and the 24th and 25th Infantry Regiments fought in the 1898 Spanish American War. The four regiments comprised 12 percent of the total force during the invasion of Cuba. Many of these Soldiers were veterans of the Indian Wars and some were Civil War veterans. Another 2,000 served in the Navy7.6 percent of all Sailors. The following video explains these facts and more.

Option One: Make your own political cartoon or write a poem about a current United States military conflict and write a page explaining your cartoon and on how the topic of your piece compares to the Spanish American War.
Option two: The Spanish American war was important to many nations and all cultures of the United States because it affected the whole country through economics and all Americans by being a citizen of a country taking over other countries. Write two pages about how the Spanish American war and a comparable modern foreign policy effects you as an American AND your cultural ancestors two, three, four generations back.
